Actuary - Financial Resilience

Location: London (Hybrid 50%)

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 35 hours

Purpose
To support the Head of Financial Resilience to assess, demonstrate and improve the financial resilience of the Group.
To use technology to improve the speed and accuracy of stress and scenario testing (“SST”)


To build and enhance processes across the capital management teams to enable more efficient productions of management information, with suitable controls, to support decision-making. 


To support oversight of stress and scenario testing across the Group to enable effective monitoring of risk exposure and to support strategic decision making.


To support identification and execution of management actions and capital solutions to improve the Group’s financial position and/or to reduce volatility

Key responsibilities 

  • To support development of methodologies, tools and processes to ensure the Group can perform robust, flexible and timely stress and scenario testing to monitor risk exposure and support decision making, with a particular focus on the use of technology
  • To build and enhance processes across the wider capital management teams to enable faster  production of management information, with suitable controls. 
  • To support updates to systems and processes to establish good practice SST production, future proofed over the medium team.
  • Engagement with key stakeholders across the Group to get buy-in on proposed methodology and processes
  • To support identification and execution of management actions and/or capital solutions to optimise the balance sheet and to reduce volatility and support the financial resilience of Just.
  • Examples of Key Activities
  • Develop methodology, tools and processes for stress and scenario testing, leveraging new technology for efficiency and scalability.
  • Develop repeatable processes across the wider capital management teams (ALM, Internal Model) to enable faster results production with suitable controls (for example in the calibration of scenarios across different risk and probability levels). 
  • Support engagement with key stakeholders across the business that are/will be involved in stress and scenario testing
  • Support group projects that impact the capital position

What we’re looking for 

  • Strong understanding of Solvency II framework, particularly the Solvency UK Matching Adjustment reforms and internal models
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills 
  • Good understanding of the products/services provided by the Group, their risks and their capital requirements 
  • Enthusiastic about leveraging new technologies to drive innovation and efficiency
  • Ability to construct frameworks and methodologies by thinking through first principles
  • Ability to maintain competence and up-to-date knowledge
  • Ability to lead and influence others, and to build collaborative relationships with a range of stakeholders across the business
  • Experience
  • Proven problem analysis and resolution experience
  • Experience of ALM, hedging, capital management, risk management, UK Solvency regulations (SII or SUK) and IFRS 17
  • Experience of model development and maintenance
  • Experience in delivery of projects
